Jean Jackson Couture is a family run business in Manchester, UK. We celebrate self love and body positivity and specialise in bohemian and non-traditional bridal wear, by stocking an exclusive selection of international designers with samples in an inclusive size range.

The Northern Quarter studio in Central Manchester carries designs by Rue De Seine, Lovers Society, Laudae, Truvelle, Rish Bridal and Rish BOHO+.

The prices of these collections range from £1550 to £3450.

"When should I start looking for my dress?"

In our experience, a year before the wedding is the ideal length of time to start your dress search. This gives you plenty of time to gather ideas and inspiration before making your final decision.

Our designers ask for around 8 to 9 months lead time, this allows time for your dress to be made, shipped and altered before your big day.

Dresses can be made in a shorter time frame, but please be aware that this will incur a rush order fee. Rush order fees can range from £100 to £800, so please take this into consideration.

We have also opened a Sample Sale Room, which means that there a selection of discounted sample gowns available for immediate purchase, with prices from £200 to £1800. The Sample Sale Room is appointment only, so please specify if you would like to schedule an appointment to see the Sample Sale Room.

We kindly ask that you have date and venue set before attending an appointment with ourselves.

"Do I need an appointment?"

We are open from Tuesday to Saturday and work on an appointment only basis, offering attentive and private, one on one appointments in a laid back and relaxed environment.

In line with the new government guidelines surrounding COVID-19, we have made amendments to our appointment system to ensure that your time with us is both safe and enjoyable.

We would recommend booking an appointment around 4 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment, especially if you are looking for an evening or weekend appointment.

All appointments will last for an hour and a half and at this time we can accommodate a maximum of one guest due to social distancing guidelines.

There is a £20 deposit required for appointments from 4pm during the week and on Saturdays. There is a £10 deposit required for midweek appointments before 4pm.

Your deposit is redeemable against all full price purchases, and is refundable if the appointment is cancelled with more than 48 hours until the appointment. If for any reason an appointment has to be changed due to the global pandemic or because of government guidelines, we will of course reschedule this. If you or a member of your party is unwell, please contact us to reschedule your booking – we will be happy to do this at no additional charge.

"Who should I bring with me?"

It is important to bring people whose opinions you trust and value. Choosing a wedding dress is essentially a very personal choice, so it is always helpful to make your party aware of your vision too.

At this time we have to limit guest numbers due to government guidelines, but we have a tripod set up so that you can zoom with others during your appointment.

We would also recommend wearing a good supporting bra if you would like some extra support, however most of our dresses can be worn without bras.

For low back bra alternatives, we would recommend Ender Le Gard.

"What sizes are your samples?"

As our designers are all based internationally, there are occasionally differences with sizing from country to country. The majority of our samples are in sizes 10 and 12, and we also have a selection of dresses in sizes 18 and 20. We will always try and give you a good idea of how a dress will look and fit even if your number is a little lower or higher than this. It is very rare that a sample ever fits anyone exactly how it should, so we will be on hand to pin and tweak the dresses during your fitting

We have plus sized samples from Rue De Seine and Rish BOHO+, and Laudae and Truvelle are both able to make dresses up to a size 24.

Payment

When you have chosen your gown, a non refundable deposit is required to be paid upon placing an order.

We accept payment by debit and credit cards, as well as cheques, cash and bank transfers.

Once we have received your deposit, we will place your order with the designer. We will then contact you when your dress has arrived with us. The remaining balance is due  within a month of arrival in the UK.

Please be aware that we are not able to offer refunds or exchanges, and that all sales are therefore final.

Alterations

We offer an additional in house alteration service that is available at our discretion. No fittings or alteration costs are included in the price of a gown. We would recommend budgeting around £200 for this. Our alteration team are available for fittings mid week, including evenings. Our in house alteration team will need to see you for your first fitting, two months before your wedding date. The alterations to your dress can be started once the dress has been paid for in full.

We also have recommendations for alteration hands across the UK if you would prefer to have your alterations done closer to home. The dress can also be couriered to you if you are unable to visit to collect your dress.

NB – at this time, we may have to ask brides to attend fittings in their own dress alone due to social distancing guidelines and the limited space in our fitting room.

Photography

Once you have purchased your gown, you are welcome to take pictures of your dress, however, until this point we cannot allow any photography of the dresses.

We have set up a tripod in store so that brides can Zoom with friends or family who are unable to attend, but please be aware that photography will not be permitted through this platform.

COVID-19

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we have had to implement new measures in store, please read these prior to booking an appointment. I appreciate that these new rules may seem quite daunting, but please remember that they have been put in place with your best interests at heart, as the safety of our visitors and team are of the utmost importance.

SAFETY MEASURES

• Please wear a face covering to your appointment. You will also be required to sanitise your hands upon arrival and gloves will be provided.
• In the studio we have nude slip dresses that can be worn under all dresses.
• Our team will also be wearing masks and gloves as we have to get close to you when fitting the dresses to you.
• If you or your guest are unwell, please reschedule your appointment, we will be more than happy to do this for you at no additional charge but we will be unable to refund the appointment deposits less than 48 hours before. If either you or your guests shows any signs of illness upon attendance, we reserve the right to end the appointment. This rule also applies to our staff.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

• Due to social distancing guidelines, brides are only permitted to bring one guest to their appointment. We have set up a tripod and our iPad so that a Zoom meeting can be scheduled so that other family members or friends can be there virtually.
• We have rearranged the store, and it is clearly marked where you will need to stand and where your guest will need to be seated.

EXTRAS

• Please research the designers and styles that you would like to try on ahead of your appointment. If you have any questions we are always more than happy to help. It would be helpful if we could curate a short list of styles that you would like to try on ahead of your appointment. We will also show you all of the dresses in store and ask you to refrain from touching as we usually do. At this time, please make sure your intentions for visiting are genuine, and that you are ready to fall in love and choose your dress – if you do not feel ready yet, let’s schedule a virtual appointment for you first.
• We have also set up a sale room so we have a selection of dresses available for immediate purchase. If you would like to see the sale pieces, you will need to specify this and book into the sale room. We will be unable to cross over between rooms during appointments.
• Unfortunately we will be unable to serve any beverages and customer toilets will be unavailable during this time.
• We have had to remove our waiting area and excess chairs in line with the guidelines, so please do not arrive early as you will be asked to return at the time of your appointment.
