Much like how every bride is unique, every bridal gown has its own special touches added to it, which suit some weddings better than others.
A common debate when it comes to wedding dresses is whether to wear a bridal corset, either designed into the dress itself, as with some of the gowns in our Rue De Seine Folklore collection, or a separate piece worn under the dress as shapewear or over the dress as a type of bodice.
Ultimately, choosing to wear a corset in addition to your dress is a decision you may need to make before choosing a dress, as a lot of modern wedding gowns do not typically work well with a corset.
Exactly why this can be a problem depends on what type of dress you opt to wear, the style of the dress itself and your personal needs.
If you are opting for a minimalist, unstructured dress made from materials like satin and cotton, the boning and lacing will appear through the fabric and could potentially ruin the silhouette.
By contrast, structured dresses often provide the same look and the same effect, with support already built into the design of the dress. If you want the look of a corset on your dress, consider a dress with a bustier or corset that is already integrated.
Unlike wedding underwear, which should be bought with the dress in mind, you should decide ahead of time if you plan to wear a corset (or other shapewear) and bring it with you to any fitting sessions.
Finally, there are the practical considerations of wearing a corset all day. A wedding day is very busy, and wearing a tight, restrictive item such as a corset may not be the best idea whilst you are eating, drinking and dancing throughout your wedding day festivities.
