Why Mikado Just Works For Wedding Dresses
in

Hunting down the perfect wedding dress is not a task for the faint of heart. It’s a jungle out there and you have to have at least some vague idea of what kind of style you’re looking for, what kind of fabric you want and what intricate detailing you might like, or you’ll find yourself walking down the aisle in something you’re just not that bothered about. Nightmare!

So, with this in mind, if you’re mulling over material at the moment might we take this as an opportunity to suggest mikado as a potential option.

Interestingly, mikado is actually one of the most versatile and durable fabrics you can go for, a beautifully luxurious and structured heavyweight material that’s typically made from silk or a blend of silk and nylon, or even polyester.

The technique to make mikado actually originates from Japan, where the silk is treated in a specific way using a twill weave that ensures the fibres are tightly woven together, creating an incredibly durable surface and a subtle, ribbed texture that makes it very beautiful to look at while giving it unparalleled structure at the same time.

This all makes it a particularly good choice for any bride looking for something a little different for their big day, as you can create unique shapes and statement styles that you might not be able to achieve with any other fabric.

If you’re looking for a bit of drama (the good kind) on your wedding day, then mikado is definitely a great fabric option for you, as it boasts a crisp, smooth finish that holds everything from flares to pleats perfectly.

Because of the stiff nature of the fabric, however, mikado is particularly well suited to corset creation – and you’ll find lots of stunning examples of these here at Jean Jackson Couture (JJC), so don’t forget to ask the team to see what we’ve got in stock.

Our Josephine corset from the Saint Bridal collection is made from mikado, for example, as well as the Rein and Ray corsets from our own JCC line.

You’re also sure to love the fact that the material is also the perfect combination of matte and glossy, so you can get the high-end look without being too over the top.

And, of course, let’s not forget the comfort factor. Naturally, you want something show-stopping but wouldn’t it be great if you could have that and be comfy at the same time?

Mikado has all your bases covered and more!
